Anglers from all over the region attended the 21st Peninsula Classic Bank Fly Fishing competition on Sunday 27 May, held at Kennick Trout fishery near Bovey Tracey on Dartmoor, run by the South West Lakes Trust. This year the competition was again sponsored by Fly-Fishing-Tackle.co.uk Crediton, fishing tackle and clothing suppliers, who generously provided the prizes.

The fishery was divided into four zones, with two hours in each zone, and a maximum bag limit in each zone of three fish, and a bag limit of eight fish for the day. While nobody caught the competition limit, two anglers caught seven fish, and two fish of over 6lb were caught.

The competition was won by Darren Penfold (Newton Abbot), who caught seven fish weighing in at 14lb 2oz, who received first prize of a season ticket for South West Lakes Trust trout fisheries. Darren caught fish in all four zones The runner-up was Chris Bolt (Kingsteignton), with Martin Braund (Exeter) in third place; the prize for heaviest fish (6lb 15oz) was won by John Hern (Exeter) – these anglers all won fishing tackle tokens and fishing tickets.

Refreshments and food were served after the competition, during which the prizes were presented by Howard Thresher and Helen Greenslade from Fly- Fishing-Tackle.co.uk, Crediton.
